Purpose

GITAM Deemed to be University is committed to promoting environmental sustainability and reducing its ecological footprint. This policy aims to reduce marine pollution, protect terrestrial ecosystems, monitor IUCN and other conservation species, and ensure sustainable harvesting of aquatic ecosystems.

Scope

This policy applies to University campuses, Food service providers (canteens, cafes, restaurants), Catering services for events, University events and conferences, Research and academic activities

Policy Statement
Reducing Marine Pollution

Eliminate single-use plastics on campus, Waste management: Implement effective waste management practices, Sustainable seafood: Source seafood from sustainable fisheries.

Protecting Terrestrial Ecosystem

Biodiversity conservation: Protect and conserve campus biodiversity, implement sustainable land use practices, Restore degraded ecosystems.

Monitoring IUCN and Conservation Species

Monitor and report on conservation species, Collaborate with research institutions and Support conservation initiatives.

Sustainable Aquatic Ecosystems Harvesting

Prioritize certified sustainable seafood, Aquaculture practices: Promote eco-friendly aquaculture practices and Fisheries management: Support responsible fisheries management.

Implementation and Monitoring

Establish a committee to oversee policy implementation, Regular audits: Conduct bi- annual audits and Evaluate suppliers' sustainability practices.

Review and Revision

This policy will be reviewed and revised every two years or as needed.
