Purpose

GITAM Deemed to be University is committed to minimizing its environmental footprint by ensuring responsible waste management practices. This policy aims to promote sustainable waste disposal methods, minimize hazardous waste generation, reduce plastic waste, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Scope

This policy applies to university campuses, All employees, students, and visitors, University operations, including teaching, research, and administrative activities

Plastic Waste Reduction

Eliminate single-use plastics on campus, ensure recycling of plastic waste, promote eco-friendly alternatives, Conduct regular awareness programs on plastic waste reduction.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

Hazardous waste will be identified, segregated, and labelled according to national and international standards, Hazardous waste will be stored in designated areas, handled by trained personnel, and disposed of through authorized channels and the University will use environmentally safe disposal methods, such as recycling, incineration, or chemical treatment.

Landfill Waste Disposal

The University will minimize waste generation through reduction, reuse, and recycling, Segregation and Composting: Organic waste will be segregated and composted, Non-recyclable waste will be disposed of in authorized landfills.

Review and Revision

This policy will be reviewed and revised every two years or as needed.
